Lacrima Lui Ovidiu 1999

This wine was given to me by our Romanian partner. We tried it striaght in the office and strangly - within drinking only a glass, we were all a bit drunk! Yes, the alcohol is 15%, but it is actually the extreme sweetness of the wine that made us drunk so fast. We even argued if it is a white wine or a liqueur, but our Romanian client confirmed that it is a high class wine in Romania from the Murfatlar region in the country, vintage 1999. The number 5 on the bottle indicates that it has aged in oak barrels for 5 years. There is also a 12 year bottle.

As I already noted, the wine has a very dominant sweet taste and golden yellow colour. The aroma is very rich and represents a wide mixture of dried and fresh fruits. The taste is fruity and there is a strong presense of the oak taste.

Overall, I definately fell in love with this unique blend. Romania is a not a famous wine country and maybe this fact adds to its charm and uniqeness. A curious fact is that Romanians drink much more white wine than red. I wonder why!

    1. Of course you can have as many doubts as you like. Lacrima (the tear) lui (of) Ovidiu (Roman writer exiled in Dacia - Murfatlar) is a HIGH CLASS wine with or without your doubts.

    2. This wine is a shitty blend of cheap wines, coloured with caramel, sweetened and blended with flavours. A 5yo wine aged in oak barrels, doesn't cost 3Euros. :))
      If you know a bit about wines, you will notice from the first smell and sip that it's a shityy fake drink.

  2. At least it looks so to people who drink it for the first time :) There is something ancient in the look and very special in the taste. Maybe it's not so for the Romanians, but it does look "high class" to others :)

  3. IT IS high class. I'm Romanian, i know this wine very well. There is also a new red version which I find to be even better. Don't just believe me, try it.

  5. Murfatlar vineyard is 2000 years old...and a tradition that old makes a really good wine.
    Romania doesn't has a good PR like France or Italy. For the last 25 years Romania sold wine to all Europe and they bottled, labeled and sold it under France, Italian or German brand. Even today Americans pay a lot of money for "high class" French wine without knowing that sometimes is made in Romania.....
    ...so :)

  6. This wine is a fortified, port-style wine. And like 99% of this sort- is a non-vintage(because the half-full barrels are never emptied).
    Trust me, I was there, I saw the manufacturing process.

    Also, a recent study in Romania showed publicly (on TV), that more than 80℅ wines in the supermarkets, are sweetened with sugar and coloured with caramel (like Coca Cola). Murfatlar was the largest brand in the country to fake it's wines. All this info is on Google. When you say HiClads wine, it costs 500Euroa-infinite.
